Gateshead Council Budget Consultation 2016/18

You have until 30 December to have your say on Gateshead Council's budget consultation.

Gateshead Council estimates that, if funding from central government continues to go down year-on-year, while demand for services keeps going up, it will have a funding gap of £77.7m over the next five years.

One of the choices being consulted on is for the Council to consider reducing the level of its funding to a number of commissioned organisations, including Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums who manage the Shipley Art Gallery on behalf of Gateshead Council.

The Shipley Art Gallery opened in 1917 and provides access to high quality art, craft and design for the people of Gateshead and visitors to the area. It works closely with local people and communities both in the Gallery and in venues across Gateshead. Many of the people we work with find it hard to access cultural services and may be using these services for the first time.

A reduction in funding would inevitably have an impact on the services the Gallery can offer.

This public consultation will take place until 30 December 2015. To provide your views on proposed reductions in funding to the Shipley Art Gallery and to comment on the wider budget proposals please click here
