About

In celebration of Local History Month, join us to delve a little deeper into the Shipley's collection of historical paintings. Join members of Gateshead University of the Third Age - who have recently co-curated exhibitions at the gallery - as they take you behind the scenes at the Shipley Art Gallery.

Featuring a new selection of paintings for 2017, this is a chance to see some of the artwork in the Shipley’s collection which is not currently on public display. You’ll learn about a range of artworks by well-known and lesser-known artists, and see how the paintings are looked after when they’re not being exhibited in the gallery. We'll look at a different selection of artworks from our other tours.

Following the tour – which lasts about an hour - we’ll enjoy refreshments in the gallery.

Please note; the tour takes place in the gallery’s stores which have low lighting and occasional steps. Lightweight folding stools are available for those who prefer not to stand.
